The Nonprofit Difference at the Masonic Homes

With the baby boomer generation coming of age, you may have noticed that aging services and senior living have become big business, with real estate investment trusts and venture capital crowding the space.

This is where our considerable history comes in. Instead of paying investors, the Masonic Homes is a nonprofit—meaning we re-invest any profits back into the community for the benefit of residents. The Masons of California raise funds from its membership for the Masonic Homes, and use portions of the Masonic Homes endowment for charitable purposes.

Nonprofits like the Masonic Homes are focused on being of service to others. Because we re-invest into the community, we are able to offer far better services and settings than any for-profit organization could or would. We’re proud of that distinction and committed to its mission.

A Legacy

of Service

The Masons of California are a historic fraternity dedicated to self-improvement, community involvement, and personal friendships. Founded in 1850, the Masons of California today include approximately 35,000 members across 330-plus lodges throughout the state. Masons give back to their communities through a number of volunteer and philanthropic initiatives. Those include early childhood literacy interventions in the state’s most underserved public schools; a wide range of college scholarships for deserving high school students; and providing social services and support for seniors through mental wellness, senior living, and in-home care.

Although the Masonic Homes of California are open to anyone, it remains committed to the Masonic values of friendship, service, and self-improvement—in every aspect of life.
